5 Insane (But True) Things About Parenting!

    Who says parenting is easy-peasy?
    Raise your right hand!

Who says parenting is tougher than it seems?
    Raise your left hand!

Well, I would say there are good times and bad times in parenting but definitely not as I have imagined it to be. Parenting totally blew my mind but it has also made me grown up too much and too fast just my like kids.

So what did I imagine parenting to be like?
I imagined that baby will sleep all day all night. But it isn’t true.
I imagined my mini me will be super obedient and easy to take care. But it isn’t true.
I imagined that if I feed them well, they won’t fall sick. But it isn’t true.
I imagined if I don’t show them junk food, they won’t know what junk food is. But it isn’t true.
I imagined when they are grown to the school going age, I will have more freedom. But it isn’t true.

So, what are the 5 insane (but true) things about parenting am I going to talk about? Let’s find out…

    1. You will never get an award no matter how well you perform.
You cleaned their poop and puke. You wake up all night to attend to them when they are sick. You are on stand-by 24/7. No matter how hard you work, you don’t get a trophy for that. True or true? The only award you get is a simple “Thank you” or “I love you” from your kids and that’s enough to make you feel is all worth it!
    2. You see angels when they are well-behaved. You see devil the moment they start throwing tantrums or talking back, you would rather pooped a piece of meat and eat it.
How true is that? You feel so blessed when they are playing it nicely, behaving well and eating properly. But when their mood started swinging, your mood will start too! Sometimes, you even think about how did I give birth to this little monster? As the Cantonese saying goes:”生舊叉燒好過生你”, which translate to, “better to have given birth to a piece of char siew (bbq pork) than you!”
What other funny expressions do you have when you want to voice out your anger or disappointment?
    3. Getting them to listen is like telling the sloth to run.
Who is able to understand what I mean here? Is so easy to get them to mess up the house but is so tough to get them to tidy up. Oh, when you are in a rush to get out of the house, even when you prepare them way much earlier, you will still end up being late for appointments. The more you rush them, the slower they get! Do you feel the same?
    4. Your life, your emotions behave like a stock market.
Your life has been pretty peaceful and stable. Same goes for your emotions. Maybe once a while, there will be ups and downs but not that much. Who would have known that these will fluctuate like the stock market once you have kids. At times you just cannot stop yourself from not yelling. Speaking softly sometimes just doesn’t work. Other times, you feel so loved that you feel like you are the most blessed person on earth.
    5. You become more witty and wise.
Yeah, witty. We have to up our level of wittiness once we have kids in order to get things done or get what we want not what they want. We have to be wiser because we want to enlighten them and we don’t want to teach the “wrong” thing to our kids. Best of all, we become smarter after having kids. At times, you can’t believe that this is you. Agree?

Regardless of the above, they are still our kids and we have to continue the journey of parenting them. All we need to do is to brush the negative thoughts off and move on. Although the journey is tough and unpredictable at times. Nonetheless, we enjoy every moment with our kids. Don’t we?

    1. Loved this! Agree we never get a trophy for that and there’s no best parent as such, but being a parent on it’s own is a wonderful thing and a trophy of our lives ???
