Awesome Family Holiday for Charity (Part 2)

School holiday is the time where we get away from the busy life of being a student and for parents to connect with their children. Our June holiday was spent meaningfully as a family and with new friends. If you have not read the first part of our trip, you should because smarties had an adventure on the very first day of the trip. Check it out at Awesome Family Holiday for Charity (Part 1) and find out what adventure it was.

Our adventure didn’t stop there. We went to explore the area outside the resort and all of a sudden, it started raining heavily. We ran into a shophouse to hide and bought some snacks from the store while awaiting for the rain to stop. While waiting, we saw a lady on a bike came to the store selling seafood which is kept chilled in the boxes behind her. Smarties were curious and went up to check out her boxes and chatted up with her. How interesting was that?!

When we were not exploring outside the resort, we would explore within the resort. We were taught how to “hunt” for food in the forest (not animals but plants). Poor gor gor got bitten by red ants so many times that he totally freaked out. He didn’t want to explore any further and just wanted to stay put in the resort.

Hence, we headed to the mini plantation in the resort to “hunt” for food. Smarties were taught how to identify which flowers/leaves/fruits that were ready for harvesting.

We didn’t stop after harvesting the food. The next thing that smarties needed to do was to cook for everyone! Yes, everyone! Smarties headed over to the kitchen and became the chef’s assistants. They helped prepared the food and learned about what to do and what not to do when cooking. They love the time spent at the kitchen. Gor gor was super focused on getting the food done well while mei mei….

was busy pinching the food. Check out the fried banana on the plate. It was really delicious and crispy. We all love it! Smarties were feeling super satisfied and happy as they got to prepare food for everyone at the resort and receiving all the positive feedback.

During their free time, smarties would head over for yoga lesson provided by teacher Rainy. Smarties love the way she taught them and they enjoyed the lessons loads. After the first lesson, they kept asking for more. I never know that they would love yoga this much! Of course, mommy couldn’t resist and attended the adult yoga class. Guess what? I fell in love with it too!

This holiday, smarties had the majority of their time connecting with nature. In the morning, we would all helped out at the garden to do some gardening work. Smarties would help with the weeding and arranging some of the plants. Weather was hot but that didn’t deterred them from doing their job.

At the same time, they got to explore and spotted many little creatures as well. Gor gor had an awesome time bringing Science lesson to life and involved his sister with all his findings. They learned about the plants and the herbs, and how it benefits our health. They also learned about those little creatures they found, how they would benefit or harm the garden. Lesson out of the classroom, that’s what we love most!

An amazing reward came after a hard day of work at the garden. A trip to the hot spring! Before we jumped into a hot spring, we headed to the stream to feed the fishes. Boy, the water was cold! Can you spot the fishes? Some of the fishes came to bite off the hard skin (or should I say dead skin?) from my feet while some enjoyed the bread that smarties placed in the water. Smarties were definitely enjoying every moment of it.

Of course, we didn’t forget our mission. Before we headed home, we had a day spent with the special needs children at the school. We played games and had yoga lesson together. They were very friendly and warm. We could see the bright cheery smile on their face all day long. What a happy bunch!

Gor gor couldn’t handle his emotion and left the school early. He was a very sensitive boy even until now. Before the lesson ended, mei mei gave out the little gifts to each and everyone of them. We were very grateful that we were given the opportunity to contribute to the foundation and to be able to join in the fun with the children of the school. Smarties definitely learned a lot during this period with them.

With all our little gifts given out, our mission, for this trip, was accomplished. Traveling as a family and being able to give back while on holiday is the best thing ever and we were really glad to find this gem in Thailand.

This holiday had provided us a very wonderful and valuable lesson especially for smarties. It allows them to foster compassion and at the same time learning the different types of life skills such as hunting for food, making food, and teaching them how to build many items using natural resources. With these skills, it can help them become more independent as they grow older.

Smarties had an excellent time meeting new friends. Although, there was a language barrier but it didn’t stop them from having fun together. This provided the chance to help them to build their social, communication and interpersonal skills. At the same time, it gave them an understanding of various ethnic backgrounds. The exposure was highly beneficial.

Smarties were feeling sad on our last day and they requested to be back here for holiday again. You know what? We will be back. So, who’s joining us on our next trip?
