CVC word family : -ab

Learning CVC word families need not be boring. If you have been following us, you know that we always make learning fun and interesting. This week we are learning CVC word family: ab.

Firstly, we learn about sounding out the words. I printed out flashcards of those words that end with ab. While I sound out the words, I pointed out the letters too. Mei mei observed, looked and followed suit. Once we have went through the words, we did the blending with a simple puzzle game.

After familiarising with the sounds and words, we moved on to reading in a sentence and tracing the word out. Mei mei loves using marker, hence I have laminated the card so that she could use the marker and she was happily tracing a word a few times.

When she was done with the writing, we moved on to spell and form the words.

There were also worksheets for her to cut and paste where, at the same time, work on her motor skills. She loves varieties.

Cutting and pasting were done. We reviewed what we have learned by going through puzzles again to sound and blend the words. Finally, we ended our lesson with a word search game and she was totally excited about it.

It was a day of fun learning with the little one and she was happy to learn new words while practicing her cutting skills at the same time. This package implements orthographic exercises that allow the child to read, building the words, and writing for fluency practice and accountability.  Worksheets, combined with the hands-on activtities, make repetition less arduous and more fun!

I always try to look for ways to keep learning fun and engaging. If you have more ideas on how to make learning fun, do share with us. Is always fun to share and learn together.

This is amazing way of learning and saying words. Thanks so much for sharing as it is very helpful to see what other mums do to teach their kids words.

Those flash cards are a great idea! My oldest started doing word searches in Kindergarten to help enforce the new words he was learning. He loves doing them for harder words now 🙂

Word families and blending words is so important for young readers. It is not as easy as some may think.
