What is Pastel Nagomi Art (PNA)?
It is a form of Japanese art healing founded in Japan, using pastels and fingers to create a gentle, transparent, warm and heart-touching art through simple yet unique ways of painting techniques. The kanji character of “NAGOMI” is ‘和’, which means harmony. The mission of PNA is to achieve a society and community that is spiritually rich, healthy, harmonious and balanced.
The therapeutic nature of this pastel art is able to create peace, harmony, and hope from the heart of the painter and also to the people who admire the pastel art. Everybody, from young children to old folks, is able to paint a simple yet beautiful art in the fastest 20mins regardless whether he/she is good in painting or not. The results are always magical, where it is able to sooth emotions, calm down and relax the mind, reduce stress and depression, increase self-awareness and self-discovery through colours & symbols, enhance self-esteem and confidence, bring joy and harmony to the heart, at the same time stimulate aestheticism and inner sense of beauty.
In Japan, it’s widely learned by many Japanese who are counselors, therapist, teachers, artists, art lovers, working people etc. for counselling and healing purposes, helping students in the schools, enhance the sense of aesthetic and creativity among the communities. Many instructors/presenters have been trained and spread the PNA around Japan for the past 12 years. It has spread to Malaysia since the year 2014 when Sarana started to conduct pastel art classes and workshops in Klang Valley and also other parts of Malaysia. She has trained instructors who are passionate in Pastel Nagomi Art not only from Malaysia but also from Singapore, Taiwan, and Bali.
