Fun day @ the Singapore Science Centre

During the Youth Day holiday, gor gor requested to go to Science Centre and off we went as per his request. Frankly speaking, it’s been a while since we went to the Science Centre. I supposed it was about a year or two since we last went there. Reason being there wasn’t many changes every time we went there. When we reached, we saw a huge aircraft right at the entrance and exclaimed:”Star Wars!!”. They took some time to admire the craft before we headed for the entrance.

The moment we entered, smarties were fascinated and excited. They started exploring everything and anything they saw…

not forgetting to take some pictures as well.

My oh my! I realised the place has changed quite a bit. There were a few sections which I don’t remember I have visited before. We entered an exhibit where they talked about brain  and emotions. Smarties were asking and observing the brain in the jar and checking out if the eyeball was real. I took the chance to bring in the topic we recently learnt: Learning about skeleton. I asked them what do you call the bone that protects the brain and they gave the correct answer: skull. Not bad, not bad…

We moved on to the next hall/exhibit. It was really cool and it’s called E3 – E-mmersive Experiential Environments where smarties had a chance to try on the oculus rifts. They got to use a head-tracking technology with wide field of view that allows you to look around in the virtual environment as if you are in there. The chair even moves along with the motion too.

Do you know you can actually purchase this VR 3D glasses from Qoo10? Yes, you can. But be warned, this product actually is not recommended for young children mainly due to its effect on their eye sight. Do read up more before you get one.

After all the technology kinds of stuff, we moved on to nature: Butterflies Up-close. We were each given a card to guide us through different stations and collect stamps. We were expecting the exhibit to be huge with someone guiding and explaining to us, and not forgetting to give us a stamp at each station. Surprisingly, it was pretty much like a self-help exhibit where you read, explore and even stamped the card yourself. We didn’t see any real butterflies yet.

We walked out to an area where the real butterflies were. A guide came to us and explained the life cycle of a butterfly and its features. Gor gor got a butterfly resting on his finger while mei mei freaked out and ran off to watch a show.

Gor gor enjoyed the moment of  having a butterfly resting on his finger and so went on to search for other butterflies. He managed to “tempt” another one to his finger.

We didn’t stay long at the Butterflies Up-Close exhibit and we headed to another exhibit where mei mei got chased by a cute little chick!

Last but not least, we went for the Fun Fair Maths where it uses Mathematics to express itself all over the place! Luckily, it wasn’t too crowded and we had facilitators to guide us on some of the activities. Smarties stayed quite a long time there exploring all the interesting stations at the fair. Some of the stations really made them think really hard to figure how things work.

The most appealing activity for smarties was the square wheels tricycle. Gor gor had fun cycling on it for few rounds while mei mei got stuck and couldn’t get her tricycle moving and gave up.

We were getting really hungry and we headed out for lunch. We didn’t manage to comb through all the exhibits but, not to worry, as we shall be back soon!
